Dayim deploys region’s tallest manlifts for Bahrain Steel project

Dayim Equipment Rental, a key regional provider of access solutions, has mobilised some of the tallest aerial manlifts in the region for a high-profile steel fabrication project in Bahrain, the company’s regional manager tells Gulf Construction in an exclusive interview.

The project is one of the company’s most logistically demanding deployments to date.

“Dayim Equipment Rental was selected to supply some of the tallest aerial manlifts available in the region – 12 units with working heights ranging from 48 to 56 m – on a long-term lease arrangement,” says Arun Jith, Regional Sales Manager – Kingdom of Bahrain at Dayim Equipment Rental. “In addition to equipment supply, Dayim is providing 24/7 on-site technical support to ensure uninterrupted operation throughout the project lifecycle.”

The units are being used on a Bahrain Steel shed expansion project, managed by Al Namal Contracting. The jobsite presented exceptional access challenges, including tight delivery schedules, confined work zones, and rigorous safety requirements.

“This project stands out for its demanding timeline, specialised equipment requirements, and the scale of aerial access support required in one of the most logistically complex steel fabrication environments in Bahrain,” Jith explains. “The challenge of rapidly mobilising 12 new, high-reach telescopic boom lifts was unprecedented in the local market.”

Dayim secured and delivered the machines including Genie’s SX-150 and SX-180 models – all newly acquired – within days, drawing on what Jith describes as “Dayim’s investment in fleet readiness, strategic supplier partnerships, and proactive project planning”.

The equipment supplied includes 12 new telescopic boom lifts with working heights of 48 and 56 m, each tailored to the extreme elevation tasks required during large-scale assembly of industrial structures.

Key capabilities of the equipment include:

• Extended working height to meet the project’s vertical access requirements;

• High platform load capacity for safe and efficient operation;

• State-of-the-art stability systems ensuring performance in windy or uneven site conditions;

• Advanced safety features including platform control interlocks, automatic load sensing, and descent alarms;

• Inbuilt power and air outlets on the platform basket to facilitate elevated work without additional cables;

• Integrated 5 kVA generators to power tools remotely in areas without grid access.

Genie SX-180 model can tackle extreme jobs with a working height of 56.86 m and horizontal reach of 24.38 m.

He continues: “Recognising the remote and power-limited nature of certain work zones, Dayim provided custom-modified manlifts equipped with onboard 5kVA generator systems. In addition, an advanced dust filtration system was fitted to enhance equipment performance in harsh industrial environments.”

“This project marked one of the first deployments in Bahrain of platform-mounted 5kVA power units as standard across multiple manlifts,” Jith points out. The height and complexity of the steel structures posed major logistical and operational challenges, according to Jith. “The biggest challenge was the logistics of mobilising a large number of specialised aerial platforms within an extremely tight timeframe,” he elaborates. “Securing 12 new high-reach units on short notice – while ensuring compliance with rigorous technical specs – required close coordination across procurement, logistics, and service teams.

“Further, operating at such heights in a hazard-sensitive steel fabrication environment demanded exacting HSE compliance and close alignment with Bahrain Steel’s stringent site protocols.”

Dayim addressed this by:

• Fast-tracking procurement and delivery through OEM coordination;

• Deploying a dedicated on-site service team for real-time support;

• Using telemetry systems for “pre-emptive maintenance planning”; and

• Aligning fully with Bahrain Steel’s HSE framework.

Remote diagnostic systems tracked real-time equipment performance, improving safety and operational uptime.

“Dayim utilised its fleet telematics and remote diagnostic systems to: monitor equipment health in real time; predict and prevent service interruptions; track usage trends for optimised utilisation and fuel efficiency,” he says.

The Genie SX-150 telescopic boom features a working envelope ideal for the most extreme access jobs with a vertical reach of 46.33 m and a horizontal reach of 24.38 m.

Safety protocols were stringent, given the elevated nature of the work. “Operating in a heavy industrial environment with elevated work platforms required full alignment with the client’s HSE framework, widely regarded as one of the most rigorous in the region,” Jith notes.

Daylim’s safety management approach included:

• Daily pre-start checks and toolbox talks;

• Deployment of new factory-tested equipment only;

• Strict adherence to permit-to-work and lockout/tagout procedures;

• Use of trained, certified operators and on-site technical supervisors; and

• Full integration of Dayim’s corporate HSE policy with that of Bahrain Steel.

 “As a result, the project has maintained a zero-incident record to date,” he confirms.

The partnership with Al Namal Contracting, the main contractor, and Bahrain Steel has evolved significantly since Dayim’s appointment. “While Dayim operates as a key subcontracted service provider, the relationship has grown into a highly trusted partnership based on responsiveness, quality of equipment, and HSE integrity,” Jith says.

Feedback from both stakeholders has been “overwhelmingly positive”, especially around service uptime and safety compliance. Dayim reports equipment utilisation rates of 90 to 95 per cent, supporting over 5,000 man-hours of elevated work with zero safety incidents.
