BAHRAIN-based Awal Refrigeration and Air-conditioning showcased a diverse range of locally-manufactured products and promoted its extensive portfolio of services at the Arabian MEP Exhibition held in Bahrain last month.

The company is a civil, mechanical and electrical contractor as well as a manufacturer of kitchen equipment, water heaters, water coolers, cold room panels, coils and air-conditioning units, air-conditioners, architectural stainless steel products, garbage and linen chutes.

“Our linen chutes are being fitted for the Holiday Inn Express hotel, under a contract awarded to us in mid-2011. The project will be completed around the middle of this year,” says managing director Ahmed Abdulla Khalid Al Khaja, adding that the chutes conform to high hygienic and safety standards.

The company is also supplying and installing garbage chutes at a 27-storey building in Mahooz under a contract awarded last December. “The project is to be completed in a record four months and we are confident of achieving it,” says Al Khaja.

Launched as a modest maintenance workshop in the 1960s, Awal Refrigeration and Air-conditioning today has two factories at Mina Salman and Sitra and has undertaken various central air-conditioning projects.

The company is pre-qualified by all major consultants and engineering practices in Bahrain for the full range of mechanical services provided and is a registered contractor with the Ministry of Works and Housing.

Over the years, it has worked on prestigious projects such as the Shaikh Isa Air Base and its success in securing the agency for Fedders, a US company and global leader of air-conditioner manufacturer, positioned it as the preferred contractor in central air-conditioning, undertaking prestigious projects like the Bahrain National Museum and Bahrain Monetary Agency (Central Bank of Bahrain).

Its state-of-the-art factory in Sitra Industrial Area fabricates complex stainless steel architectural elements which have been used in the Seef Mall, Sitra Shopping Centre and the Kempinski hotel.

Overseas, the company has supplied and installed kitchen equipment for the Radisson Blu in Dubai, UAE, and post boxes for Qatar Post.

Awal Refrigeration and Air-conditioning also manufactures packaged air-conditioners, decorative mini-splits, fan coil units, ducted splits under the Gulfstar brand, which have been supplied to Bahrain Defence Force and Ministry of Health projects. “Their rugged construction and high quality maintained in components and raw materials has also made us a preferred OEM partner for several leading manufacturers,” says Al Khaja.
