Kilometre-high target ... the Nakheel Tower.

Dubai real estate developer Nakheel has halted construction of its kilometre-high tower for a year.

Work on the planned mixed-use tower, which is aiming to be the world’s tallest super skyscraper, began late last year as part of Nakheel’s Waterfront development.
Nakheel is also the developer of the Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali, Palm Deira and The World, as well as the postponed Trump International Hotel and Tower on Palm Jumeirah. Last November, Nakheel said that it would scale back on a number of projects and cut 500 employees – roughly 15 per cent of its global staff – in response to the global economic climate. Nakheel said that further work on the building’s foundation “will commence in 12 months.”
