Abu Dhabi’s Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC) and Masdar are to jointly develop and implement sustainable energy and water solutions on Sir Bani Yas Island.

One of eight natural islands which make up Desert Islands, the nature destination offshore Abu Dhabi’s Al Gharbia (Western Region), Sir Bani Yas Island recently launched its Phase One which features an up-market 64-room resort and spa, nature conservation area and a  variety of adventure and nature-based activities. The agreement will serve to develop a number of sustainable energy and water initiatives as part of the island’s emphasis on preservation.
Masdar and TDIC will dedicate management and technical expertise to determine the feasibility of developing an energy and water farm on the island. In addition, the two companies will also research and identify other development activities, such as alternative eco-friendly transportation systems, recycling waste to energy systems, and other energy conservation practices.
TDIC is a master developer of major tourism destinations in Abu Dhabi, while the Masdar initiative is Abu Dhabi’s $15-billion investment in the development and commercialisation of innovative technologies in renewable, alternative and sustainable energies as well as sustainable design.
Masdar is driven by the government-owned Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Adfec).
