Aecom, one of the world’s premier infrastructure consulting firms, has promoted Amer Mneimneh to the position of Vice President, Urbanism + Planning (U+P) for the Middle East & Africa.
He is taking over from Janus Rostock who is leaving Aecom in mid-June to take up an opportunity in his home country of Denmark. The transition of responsibilities from Janus to Amer is underway, said the statement from Aecom.
An industry veteran, Mneimneh has over 20 years’ architecture, masterplanning and urban design experience gained in the Middle East, the last 14 of those with Aecom.
He is currently the operations director for the U+P practice and the Dubai Design Studio lead.
Transformative projects on which he has worked include Dubai Expo 2020, Saadiyat Island Masterplan, Dubai Harbour, Jeddah Strategic plans and Neom.
In his new role, Mneimneh will lead the 93-strong team within Aecom’s U+P practice and drive growth by ensuring clients received the best of the firm’s technical practice, quality design and innovative thinking.
Mario Pishiri, Managing Director, Buildings + Places at MEA, said: "While we are sad to be saying goodbye to Rostock, I am delighted that we have been able to appoint his replacement from within our talented team."
"Mneimneh will be responsible for proactively positioning, developing and growing urban development opportunities to support the growth of our regional business," he noted.
His appointment comes shortly after Aecom launched its global environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy.
He will join the global ESG steering committee to embed sustainable development and resilience across the company’s work, improve social outcomes for communities, achieve net-zero carbon emissions and enhance governance.
Commenting on his promotion, Amer said: "I am excited to lead our U+P business and our very talented and diverse team as we continue to enhance urban developments and create long-lasting benefits for the communities we serve."
Mneimneh also represents the region on Aecom’s global Equity, Diversity & Inclusion steering committee, said the statement from the company.
