The UK-based, Trelawny SPT, a global supplier and manufacturer of surface preparation equipment, with dealers and distributors in most of the major and the developing regions of the world is looking to promote its wide range of construction products in the region.
“Several of our products that have been recently introduced in the region, have got a high level of acceptance from the regional market,” says a spokesman for the company.
One such product is the cost-effective mixer PortaMix. The uniquely-designed PortaMix prepares the mix for a wide range of construction compounds, inclu-ding cement screeds, grout, mortar, texture coatings, sealants and adhesives. Manufactured from tough HMPE plastic, the mixer has an overall capacity of 70 litres and can mix up to 100 kg of material in its specially-shaped bucket, says the spokes-man.
“A Kuwaiti company, which had purchased a number of units earlier, has been operating them continuously on a daily basis for the past year. Impressed by the performance, the company has placed a larger order for the mixers for an office block project in Kuwait,” he adds.
The contract for the office block project includes a series of office complexes split into 3 by 3 sq m sections, with a target to complete 200 sq m per day.
“Portamix mixers have been mixing and pouring over 40,000 sq m of Ardex – a self-levelling compound – mixed with water – to depths of up to 6 to 7 mm,” says the spokesman. “The mixers have a capacity to mix four bags of the compound at a time. With each bag providing approximately 2.5 sq m coverage, one four-bag cycle is enough to complete each room,” he says.
“The company is happy with the performance of the Portamix and has preferred it over traditional concrete pumps for several reasons. Being light and compact, the machines can be moved easily even to smaller areas on the worksite.
“It is well known that many contractors in Kuwait use hand buckets to mix flooring compounds, simply because it is perceived to be cheaper.
“However, since each bucket gives only 1 sq m coverage, often up to 10 bucket mixes are required per office unit, making it uneconomical and inconsistent,” says the spokesman.
Portamix is powered by a robust two-speed, 110 or 240 V, 1800 W motor and is fitted with a choice of easy glide castors or rugged pneumatic tyres. Covers are available to keep the wheels free from material displacement, he says.
In addition, Trelawny has also developed two new floor grinders, which are electric, three-headed planetary machines, with grinding diameters of 480 and 650 mm. Both models are ideally suited for a wide range of applications including: concrete, terrazzo and stone floor polishing. The operator needs just basic instructions to use the grinder, of which each one is designed to accept a wide range of diamond grinding and polishing consumables, the spokesman adds.
Vibro Lo
Advancing the science of reducing hand vibration, Trelawny has expanded its range of tools under the trademark Vibro-Lo. “Trelawny SPT is at the vanguard of user protection in its objective to reduce vibration levels across the range. To ensure that all Trelawny tools comply with the rigorous demands of low vibration levels, Trelawny operates an in-house testing procedure, he explains.
The vast majority of Trelawny tools have been designed and engineered to accept dust hoods. Not only does this make the equipment acceptable when working on the removal of lead-based paints and nuclear contamination decommissioning projects, but ensures that the operator and site workers are able to work in a healthy, dust free environment, he says.
Other products recently launched by the company include two low-vibration needle scalers – the VL203 and an in-line tool version – the VL223. “These brand new tools can be transformed from needle scalers into chipping hammers in just a matter of a few seconds, saving the operator time when switching from one process to another,” says the spokesman.
He adds: “When used as needle guns, they will accept 19, 3 mm needles, available in flat, pointed and chisel-tip configurations, making them ideally suited for most applications. For use in hazardous situations, Trelawny offers flat-tip, spark-resistant needles, manufactured from Beryllium copper.
“When switched into chipping hammers, each of these tools will operate a 12 mm square chisel from 19 to 64 mm in length. Weighing less than 3 kg, both these tools are incorporated within the firm’s Vibro Low range, offering efficient performance combined with operator safety and comfort.
Over the years, Trelawny SPT has established a network of five distributors covering the Gulf markets. In the UAE, the company is represented by Sigma Enterprises, which distributes Trelawny products from its bases in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. “Sigma has a reputation for first-class service to the construction industry throughout the UAE,” says the spokesman.
Trelawny is represented by Qatar by Gulf Incon, with which the firm shares a 20-year association. In Bahrain, the company’s range of products is distributed by Gulf Equipment and Technology, which has a substantial stock holding of Trelawny’s products ready to meet with the increasing demands from Bahrain construction industry. In Oman, Trelawny products are distributed through Bin Salim Enterprises Company, while in Kuwait, the company has recently entered into a dealership with Al-Sultan and Khalaf Trading Company.
