At least seven contractors have prequalified for the main construction package of Qatar Petroleum’s $5 billion Al Shaheen grassroots refinery.
The companies include: Snamprogetti of Italy; Technip of France; Bechtel of the US; JGC Corporation of Japan; and GS Engineering and Construction, Hyundai Engineering and Construction Company and SK Engineering and Construction (all from South Korea).
In addition, six subcontractors have prequalified including Daelim Industrial Company, Daewoo Engineering and Construction and Samsung Engineering, Taiwan-based CTCI and Foster Wheeler and CB&I of the US. Qatar Petroleum says that it is planning to finalise prequalification and invite bids for the lump sum turnkey contract by the end of this month (May), with a view to awarding the deal by November.
