State-of-the-art equipment at GPCC’s facilities ... meeting the demand.

Gulf Precast Concrete Company (GPCC) has secured a lucrative contract worth Dh250 million ($68.12 million) for the Al Barari Residential Complex in the Nad Al Sheba area of Dubai with construction scheduled for completion by the end of next year.

Gulf Precast is one of the leading manufacturers of precast and prestressed concrete components, hollowcore slabs, GRC (glass reinforced concrete) and GRP (glass reinforced plastic) products in the UAE, besides having wide expertise in architectural and structural detailing, mould-making, manufacturing, erecting, fixing and sealing all types of precast concrete elements.
Gulf Precast provides a complete construction solution, from architectural and structural detailing to manufacturing and handover by the company’s erection teams that operate both inside and outside the UAE.
The project is the latest among a string of projects it has already secured for prestigious developers such as Emaar, Nakheel, Abwab and government departments like Dubai Municipality, Abu Dhabi Public Works departments and Dubai Civil Aviation. The company is also involved in the construction of the Dubai Mall, which is set for completion by February next year.
“Our present yearly turnover is between Dh250 million and Dh300 million – and these figures are rising steadily by 10 per cent over the years, thanks to the prestigious contracts that we have won due to our performance and adherence to quality,” says Elias Seraphim, technical and commercial manager for the company.
Major foreign contracts handled by the company include the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Doha, Qatar and the UAE Pavilion at the Hanover (Germany) Expo in 2000, he says, adding that GPCC’s other prominent projects included Sheikh Hamdan’s palace in Abu Dhabi, Heritage Club, Abu Dhabi Theatre, General Municipalities Building, Al Aryam Tower, Adnoc-Fod building and Al Murooj Complex in Dubai.
“Since our construction work involves the use of heavy material, most of our work is in the UAE itself where our company is into designing, manufacture and installation of prestressed/precast concrete components such as custom-designed precast wall frame structure including external insulated sandwich panels, all sorts of architectural and structural precast components and systems such as columns, beams and cladding elements for buildings, villas, warehouses, schools, hospitals, bridges and tunnels,” he comments.
The company has five factories- three of them in Abu Dhabi and two in Dubai. “Three of our factories are using traditional equipment, while the other two are equipped with state-of-the-art, automatic, computerised and robotised production. One of these two factories is an automatic hollow-core slab production unit Seraphim says.”
Elaborating on how relevant modern, state-of-the-art machinery and equipment is in the present-day construction scenario, Seraphim says: “The use of this technology has led to a huge, valuable production output while reducing on the workforce. The use of automatic systems and robotics means a production efficiency that is 10 times more than what is gained by using traditional systems, besides also deriving a more consistent and controlled quality.”
He continues: “In keeping with our reputation, Gulf Precast maintains strict safety and quality control procedures throughout the entire process from detailing stage to handing over. Besides, we adopt very stringent safety control measures and also focus on the use of environment-friendly and natural ingredients like natural stone, natural sand and cement that leaves no toxic waste at all.”
Besides being ISO 9001 certified since 1994, the company’s dedication to quality has seen it regularly competing for Total Quality Management awards to benchmark itself against other world-class industries. Its efforts paid off rich dividends when the company won prestigious awards such as the Sheikh Khalifa Industry Award for Total Quality Management, The Gold Award, Customer and Market Focus Award, Improvement Award and Business Environment Award.
“The UAE is witnessing a massive construction boom and we are happy to be part of this while also participating in building the UAE towards becoming a modern and first class country,” Seraphim concludes.
