The LG Air Conditioning Academy in Jeddah is contributing greatly to the Saudi HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning) sector by providing training courses to properly equip the manpower in the industry.
Since the beginning of this year, around 20 training courses had been organised by the academy in Jeddah alone. The activities of the academy also covered many other areas such as Tabuk, Al Madinah, Yanbu, Khamis Mushayt, Najran as well as Riyadh and the Central Province.
Within the last three months, the academy organised three training courses on air-conditioning operations, attended by a large group of engineers, technicians and operators of maintenance departments within many government agencies and ministries, says a Yong Kim, senior product manager of LG Air-Conditioners.
The organisations included the Ministry of Interior, Riyadh; Air Defence Forces at Jeddah; and the Border Patrol of Najran.
In addition, the academy also offered courses to many private companies, he says.
Meanwhile, a class from the Faculty of Engineering at the King Abdulaziz University, led by Dr Omar Ali Al Rabghi, head of Thermal Engineering and Desalination department, recently toured LG Air Conditioning Academy.
The group visited the academy’s different sections and was briefed about its activities. An in-depth lecture was also arranged for the visiting students where various topics on the central air conditioning industry and its applications were discussed.
After the visit, Dr Al Rabghi commented: “The facilities at the LG Academy far exceeds our expectation. Through our tour, we have seen the comprehensive technical equipment for theoretical training with the latest programmes and computers designed for the different stages of the air-conditioning industry including engineering planning, instrumentation, equipment and fittings testing, followed by the best practice for installation.
“All the above is linked integrally with practical training which allows the trainee immense opportunities to practise his theoretical knowledge – which is one of the best educational methods,” said Al Rabghi.
The academy, established in 2005 on an area of 430 sq m, comprises administration, a teaching class, air-conditioning equipment, amenities, and as well as the technical workshops designated for practical training. The teaching staff comprises air conditioning and cooling engineers.
In collaboration with the sole agent for LG air conditioning equipment, HG Ibrahim Shaker Company, LG also conducts training courses for the technicians of its distributors throughout the kingdom.
