Metito, a leading water desalination and wastewater treatment specialist, has added yet another feather to its cap by bagging the design, installation and operation contract for a QR8 million ($2.19 million), pilot plant 35 km west of Doha in Qatar.
The plant will further evaluate the treatment of treated sewage effluent (TSE).
The plant, which is part of a bigger project, will test the feasibility of treating TSE using reverse osmosis technique, a method by which water is pressurised against a membrane surface to get rid of unwanted residue. Four different pre-treatment schemes will be tested of which three will be based on membrane technologies namely micro filtration (MF), ultra filtration (UF) and nano filtration. The fourth pre-treatment scheme will be the usual conventional pre-treatment (CPT) involving multi-media filtration.
Commenting on the contract Walid Orabi, country manager of Metito, Qatar said: “This is yet another landmark in our esteemed list of projects. The major benefit of this plant is the implementation of membrane based technology which will help provide clean water for irrigation purposes coupled with trouble-free operation.”
In order to ensure accuracy of results Metito has deployed a wide array of instruments and data transmitters, which will monitor the plant’s operation to determine the optimum pre-treatment scheme that can produce water to the desired quality.
