Precision tools ease work

The Hilti PS 200.

Hilti – a world leader in the manufacture of quality precision tools for the construction industry – continues its efforts at providing innovative and customer-specific services and solutions that ensure accuracy, dependability and security, says Charles Daher, a spokesman for Hilti Regional Office (Middle East and South Asia).

Over the past several years much of the efforts at Hilti have been aimed at improving the security and health of the end-user. Towards this end, the company has introduced several innovations in the recent past that have not only improved the performance of its products but also enhanced the ease and safety at work. These include:

Active torque control (ATC)
ATC – which operates in addition to the mechanical slip clutch – was the first of its kind that minimises the hazard of drill bit jamming.
“When sensors detect jamming of the drill bit, the control device disconnects the magnetic clutch, immediately shutting off the motor,” Daher says. “When the drill bit jams, the ATC stops the tool in a fraction of a second, preventing the user from losing control of the tool. As a result, there is an increased level of protection. This enables users to perform their duties with less stress.

Active vibration reduction (AVR)
Hilti’s innovative AVR system helps minimise the strong vibrations which result from heavy chiseling and the consumption of high engine power.
Over time, high vibrations can lead to health damages for the user, but the AVR system reduces the vibrations by 50 per cent, he says.

Dust removal system (DRS)
The integrated DRS – an innovative dust collection solution – provides an unobstructed view of the cutting line without the encumbrance of an extractor hose. Developed for work in dust-sensitive areas and also for dust-intensive work, DRS can be used for drilling concrete, wood and wood composites and partly for abrasive materials.

Hilti PS 200
The Hilti PS 200 is a hi-tech solution for rebar detection, bar diameter estimation and concrete cover measurement.
“Where rebar configuration in concrete is critical, the Hilti PS 200 Ferroscan is the only tool around that will locate it,” says Daher. “The new PS 200 Ferroscan is a quick, easy-to-use, portable system useful for detecting the position and diameter of reinforcement bars in concrete and measuring depth of cover.
The system consists of a scanner, monitor and PC-based software. The scanner helps gather information from below the concrete surface, which is transferred to the monitor using an infrared connection for immediate viewing. When more detailed evaluation is needed, Hilti software helps the user prepare a print-ready report.
Hilti is a world leader in developing, manufacturing and marketing value-added top-quality products for professional customers in the construction industry and in building maintenance. The group’s product range covers drilling and demolition, direct fastening, diamond and anchoring systems, firestop and foam systems, installation, measuring and screw fastening systems as well as cutting and sanding systems.
Founded in 1941, the Hilti Group evolved from a small family company. “The intention of the Martin Hilti Family Trust, which holds all of the registered shares, is to safeguard our founder Martin Hilti’s life’s work in the long term,” says a spokesman for the company
Hilti operates in more than 120 countries. Of its more than 14,500 employees, two-thirds work directly for the company’s customers, in sales organisations, engineering and customer service. The company, which has its corporate headquarters at Schaan in the Principality of Liechtenstein, has production plants and research and development centers in Europe, America and Asia.
“Hilti is committed to excellence in innovation, total quality, direct customer relationships and effective marketing,” says the spokesman.
“Our corporate policy aims to build stakeholder value. Only by integrating the interests of all the company’s partners, at home and abroad – employees, customers, suppliers, local communities and authorities as well as the financial community – can we create the foundation of confidence on which Hilti builds its long-term success,” he concludes.
