AlUla Development Company (UDC) announced the start of construction on the 250-key Numaj, which is the first of a “new wave” of developments that will turn a quiet archaeological site at AlUla into a vibrant, year-round community and a permanent fixture on the global luxury travel map.
The project, which will be operated by Marriott International under the Autograph Collection brand, marks the transition of UDC into the execution phase. The developer, a subsidiary of Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund Public Investment Fund (PIF), expects the hotel to open in 2027.
John Pagano, Managing Director of UDC, said the ground-breaking represents a clear step forward in the company’s delivery agenda to create investment-ready assets.
Designed by architectural firm GioForma, the hotel is named after the Nu Ursae Majoris star system, referencing AlUla’s history as a guide for ancient travellers. The facility will include five dining venues and wellness centres, with a design focused on the region’s natural landscape.
The development is targeting LEED Gold certification and includes environmental initiatives such as greywater reuse and energy-conscious lighting that adheres to AlUla’s Dark Sky policy.
