Qatar signs deals worth $12.7m

Doha: Qatar's Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, Ali bin Saad Al Kuwari, has signed contracts worth QR47.2 million ($12.7 million) for four projects.

The first contract, for design work for a Doha highway, was signed with an international company. The QR4.7 million contract stipulates that the work must be completed by May 17, 2003.

The second contract, worth QR8.9 million, was signed with a local company for construction of an administrative office at the Girls' College in Qatar University. The deadline for completing the work is April 13, 2003.

Al Kuwari also signed a contract worth QR30.7 million with a local company for a sewage water collection basin for pumping stations No 25 and 26. According to the contract the work is to be completed by December 22, 2003.

The final contract, worth QR2.7 million, was signed with a specialised company for consultative services of the project.

Firm to build medical center

Doha: Qatar's Al Jaber Trading and Contracting Company has won a contract to build a new medical centre at Mesai'eed.

The centre, valued at QR12.4 million ($3.4 million), is expected to be completed by May 2003. The centre, located near the Mesaieed Industrial City roundabout, will have separate consulting areas for men and women.

It will have X-Ray, ultrasound, a modern laboratory and an emergency area that can accommodate up to six patients.

School lines up expansion

Manama: Ibn Khuldoon National School in Bahrain has awarded a BD360,000 ($955,000) contract for the first phase of a major expansion of its premises to Almoayyed Contracting.

Work has begun on the project, which includes a two-storey building, with classrooms, administrative areas, laboratories, a prayer area, a student lounge and a canteen for the middle school. Construction is expected to be completed by June 30 next year, in time for the beginning of the school year in September.

Prequalifiers invited for highway

Doha: International contractors have been invited to prequalify for a contract to design and build a highway which forms part of Qatar's primary routes project.

The scope of the North Highway project calls for three main roads, totalling about 150 km, to be upgraded to full dual four-lane freeway standard, with several grade separated interchanges, and all related works. Documents can be obtained by payment of QR5,000 and the closing date is September 30.

Badr Contracting wins Qatar deal

Doha: Badr Contracting and Trading Company has been awarded a QR8 million ($2.1 million) contract to build an administrative block at the Industrial Area for Small and Medium Scale Industries in Qatar.

The new industrial city is being set up 15 km west of the capital Doha. Covering an area of 11 sq km, the area is being developed at an estimated cost of QR400 million, according to Minister of Energy and Industry Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah.

The cost of providing the Phase One infrastructure requirements for the small and medium scale industries has so far been to the tune of QR225 million.

Phase One infrastructure includes roads, water and drainage systems besides electricity and gas.

Oman awards $64m tenders

Muscat: Oman's Tender Board has awarded tenders worth RO24.757 million ($64 million).

Among the tenders was a contract valued at RO3.613 million to supply water to Al Ma'abailah area in the Muscat governorate.

Other tenders awarded included a RO7.341 million contract for catering services at Sultan Qaboos University for three years.
