Cityscape honours new projects
NEW real estate projects dominated the awards race at the second Cityscape Awards for Real Estate in Saudi Arabia held last month.
The awards, part of Cityscape Jeddah 2010, honoured top Saudi property and architecture projects and several future developments. The event staged last month (June 7 to 9) featured projects and services of more than 100 local and international property investors, developers and service providers on 10,000 sq m of exhibition space.
Some of the award winning projects in various categories included: Emaar – The Economic City’s Esmeralda Village at King Abdullah Economic City for Best Waterfront Development (future) in the development category; Alandalus Property Company’s Hayat Mall for the Commercial and Retail Project Award (built); the Jeddah Development and Urban Regeneration Company’s Khozam Palace Regeneration Project for the Commercial and Retail Project Award (future); and Emaar Middle East’s Jeddah Gate Project for the Residential Project Award (future) as well as the Best Urban Design and Master Planning Award in the architecture category.

Spotlight on healing environment

in infection control technologies and products took centre stage last month at the second Hospital Build Middle East Exhibition and Congress 2010, which highlighted the importance of putting in place a first-rate healing environment at healthcare facilities in the Middle East. The three-day event that took place at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, brought together a spectrum of suppliers, manufacturers and designers who put the spotlight on the construction, operation and management of hospitals in the region which, according to sources, is expected to see construction of 75 to 132 new hospitals worth $17.9 billion in the near future.
Alongside the exhibition, a multi-disciplinary congress was held in addition to an exhibition by the creators of Arab Health, IIR Middle East, featuring 70 companies from 18 countries.

Hotel show visitor number rises
THE
Hotel Show 2010 attracted five per cent more visitors than last year – including delegates from around the world – despite the global downturn, according to dmg events Dubai, the show’s organiser. Companies from more than 35 overseas countries joined 130 exhibitors from the UAE at the exhibition, which filled six halls at Dubai World Trade Centre in May (17 to 19). France set up the largest country pavilion, spanning 652 sq m, followed by Italy, Germany, Cyprus, China, Thailand and Belgium. Spain, Portugal, the UK and Turkey were also represented. A total of 363 exhibitors participated in the event.
