Munters has developed a new Windows based help and calculation program for ventilation consultants, engineers and installers of humidification and evaporative cooling systems. The program, FA6 CALC, includes a general calculation module for dimensioning evaporative humidifiers and coolers.

FA6 CALC is a special program developed to simplify the dimensioning of evaporative air humidifiers and coolers. Users are primarily consultants, designers and installers of ventilation equipment. The software contains very useful information on evaporative humidification and cooling and users can find everything regarding air data in the form of tables and diagrams, according to Munters. Users quickly receive the information they need, both visually and specified in figures.

"Everyone who works with climate systems, ventilation and cooling will find FA6 CALC useful," says Tomas Remmerfelt of Munters AB, which is headquartered in Sweden. "It speeds up the work and it's easy to test the effects when indoor atmospheric conditions change, as well as what results from two different kinds of atmospheric conditions merging."

The other part of FA6 CALC consists of a dimensioning module for calculating and selecting different alternatives for evaporative air humidifiers on the basis of the plant specification. The program calculates the correct size of humidifier based on design parameters such as the humidification requirement, pressure drop and required indoor condition. "It's often difficult to keep track of all the parameters when you have to design your system," remarks Remmerfelt. "The program does all the necessary calculations and simplifies the consultants' work, which saves time."

Munters' software engineers have included the Mollier diagram and the psychrometric chart diagram in FA6 CALC. The charts are used by ventilation engineers all over the world to retrieve data such as dry bulb temperature, wet bulb temperature, dew point and both relative and absolute humidity. The information in FA6 CALC is available in both diagrammatic and tabular form and can easily be copied to Word and Excel documents to assist with documentation, he adds.

Evaporative cooling and air humidification systems are used in the manufacturing industry to provide the correct humidity level in production facilities, and in office premises for cooling and humidification.
