Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened the second bridge within Phase Four of Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project.
This newly constructed bridge facilitates traffic flow from the intersection of Al Mina Street and Sheikh Rashid Road to the intersection of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street and Sheikh Rashid Road. The bridge spans 605 m, comprising two lanes with a designed capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour.
Phase Four of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project encompasses the construction of four bridges with a total length of 3.1 km and a combined capacity of about 19,400 vehicles per hour across all lanes, RTA said.
The first bridge, which was opened in December last year, facilitates traffic flow from the intersection of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street and Sheikh Rashid Road towards Al Mina Street and the Falcon Intersection. This bridge spans 1,335 m, featuring three lanes and a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour.
As one of the largest infrastructure initiatives currently undertaken by the RTA, Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project spans 13 km, encompassing Sheikh Rashid Road, Al Mina Street, Al Khaleej Street, and Cairo Street. The project includes the development of 15 intersections and serves both Deira and Bur Dubai, in addition to prominent developments such as Dubai Islands, Deira Waterfront, Dubai Maritime City, and Port Rashid.
Meanwhile, the RTA has awarded a contract worth AED1.5 billion ($408.39 million) for the Al Fay Street Development Project. The project extends from its intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, passes through Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, and continues to Emirates Road. It includes the development of five key intersections featuring 13.5 km of bridges and 12.9 km of roads.
Upon completion, the project will enhance Al Fay Street’s capacity to accommodate 64,400 vehicles per hour and serve residential and developmental areas, benefiting an estimated population and visitor base of 600,000 individuals, RTA said.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, stated: “Al Fay Street Development Project is a pivotal infrastructure initiative within Dubai’s road network. It establishes a new strategic corridor among the emirate’s main roads, significantly enhancing east-west connectivity. Al Fay Street acts as an extension of Al Khail Roads, stretching from its intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Emirates Road.”
Al Tayer added that the project will serve many residential and developmental areas, including Dubai Sports City, Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai Production City, Jumeirah Golf Estates, Tilal Al Ghaf, Damac Lagoons, The Oasis, and Remraam.
