AN RMD Kwikform solution was used in the construction of a state-of-the-art military college in Muscat, Oman.
Specialist contractor Douglas OHI utilised RMD Kwikform’s Airodek soffit support prop and panel system in the construction of the technical college for Oman’s armed forces. Douglas OHI required a fast, economical and safe soffit support system to tide over the challenges of a short construction schedule and initial delays in mobilisation and opted for the Airodek system, following the input from the RMD Kwikform design team at the development stage of the process. This is the first time the system has been utilised in Oman.
The typical floors of the project have a 250-mm-thick post-tensioned slab that has a 3.28-m soffit height. The peripheral 450-mm drop beam was supported using Kwikstage and GTX beams which included perimeter access for work areas. The total slab area is 1,400 sq m which was done in two pours.
“The construction schedule for this project was extremely tight, and following a number of postponements we started two weeks late. This is when our decision to utilise the RMD Kwikform Airodek system started to pay off, because combined with the on-site support it provided, we completed the final slab a week ahead of schedule and well before other contractors on the project,” said Ganesan, project manager, Douglas OHI.
“The most positive outcome for us working with RMD Kwikform and utilising the Airodek system is that it has given us scope to win additional work on the same project which is the mechanical workshop building. The RMD Kwikform presence, combined with the technical expertise it brought to the project, has contributed to making this a big success for Douglas OHI,” he added.
