The British University in Dubai (BUiD) has partnered with the Emirates Green Building Council (GBC) to offer the first LEED-accredited professional examination courses in the region.
Industry professionals and students can participate in the programme, which runs throughout the summer, says a spokesman for BUiD.
As cities across the Middle East look to introduce green building standards, this pioneering scheme will seek to equip the next generation of architects and developers with the skills required for environmentally-sustainable construction, he said.
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System programme is one of the key international benchmarks for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.
By completing the course, students will better understand the criteria involved in the LEED’s assessment – including better use of water, energy and sustainable material – and be more able to build these considerations into their approach to architecture and design. BUiD is playing a key role in expanding the discussion around the implementation of sustainable design principles.
