Construction work has been kicked off on Sama Dubai’s Dubai Towers-Dubai project, which once complete will represent a new era of architectural sophistication that push the limits of design and innovation in Dubai, says a spokesman for the developer.

Following the groundbreaking ceremony last month, enabling works are expected to continue until mid-2009. Ranging between 60 to 91 floors and offering a total built-up area of more than 12.5 million sq ft, the Dh20 billion ($5.44 billion) project is estimated to be complete by 2014.
The towers will incorporate high-end retail, ultra-chic restaurants, entertainment facilities, health spas, gymnasiums, hotels and residential apartments, says Farhan Faraidooni, executive chairman of Sama Dubai, the international real estate development and investment arm of Dubai Holding.
Set to become the centrepiece of The Lagoons Central Business District, Dubai Towers-Dubai will comprise four state-of-the-art residential, commercial, retail and hospitality towers. The highly unconventional luminous design of  the towers will form a dynamic sculpture that symbolises an orchestrated movement of candlelight. In their design, the towers will consist of spiralling structures that rotate elliptically around a vertical axis to produce an aesthetically distinctive contour for each of the four towers. With every floor size progressively diminishing as the building rises higher, no floor plate design will be identical for any of the towers.
Set against a backdrop of landscaped lush islands, Dubai Towers-Dubai will be surrounded by the creek. Easily accessible from a nearby metro station, the towers will be connected to the network of navigable waterways of The Lagoons as well as the rest of the creek through a 40-berth marina.
Located next to the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, The Lagoons promises a harmonious existence with the surrounding eco-systems. Dubai Towers-Dubai will encompass the same degree of environmental consciousness and is currently undergoing Leed certification. Featuring theatres, museums, an arts centre, music conservatory and the Dubai Opera House, The Lagoons will hold a wide appeal to tourists and residents seeking world class cultural attractions.
Spread over an area of 70 million sq ft, The Lagoons will feature seven beautifully landscaped islands, comprising of residential units, shopping centres, office buildings, and marinas.
