International floorings specialist Flowcrete is making its mark in the Middle East markets with its innovative range of K-Screed flooring and Deckshield systems, which have been used on a number of projects that required high-quality building finishes.
One such high-profile project was the new Capital Towers, located along the rapidly changing skyline of Dubai’s famous Sheikh Zayed Road. The development features two towers comprising combined office and hotel space, complete with a connecting dining-cum-retail courtyard and a multi-storey car-park
Flowcrete’s K-Screed, which has been used for almost 40 years on major projects around the world, has created a strong platform for the final floor finishes of this iconic building, says a spokesman for the UK-based company. More than 10,000 sq m of the high-strength screed have been installed in the ballroom, entrance lobby and VIP area of the glass-clad building.
“K-Screed’s sheer strength gets construction projects off the ground, while its speed of installation and versatility enables it to fit in with even the most demanding building schedules,” says Andrew Gwyther, commercial director of Flowcrete Middle East, while commenting on the benefits of using this flooring system.
“The reduced water content of the system provides added strength and durability, eliminating cracking, curling and debonding that often occurs with sand/cement screeds. Curing times of as little as two to four hours – as opposed to seven days for sand/cement – and quicker drying times – of 24 hours per 10 mm thickness compared to up to 75 days for sand/cement – are further key advantages on both new-build and refurbishment projects.
“One of the most common causes of floor failure is the underlying screed. By installing a high-strength proprietary screed, architects and specifiers can help facility owners prolong the life of the floor and save on costly and inconvenient refurbishment projects,” adds Gwyther.
At the Capital Towers’ multi-storey car-park zone, around 28,000 sq m of elastomeric Deckshield system have been installed, providing a high-quality, seamless finish with superior hard-wearing and abrasion-resistant properties.
“Both systems have been specified here for a number of years now and this is the latest in a number of high-profile projects to utilise them.
Other projects in Dubai that have used Flowcrete include a major installation at Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport and the BurJuman Centre. Around 500,000 sq m of K-Screed flooring has also been installed in various projects across the city such as Dubai Festival City development, the BurJuman Centre and Dubai International Airport.
