Ofis unveils ‘magic cube’

In order to create space for quiet and concentration, Germany’s Bosse Design has recently developed a cube that can be freely positioned within an open-plan room.

The “magic cube” – as it is called – is being offered by Office Furnishing Interior Solutions (Ofis), the interiors company of the Dubai-based Easa Saleh al Gurg Group, a leading diversified business group in the UAE.
“Architects and designers find the “magic cube” the solution to many of their problems. Bosse has created this elegant and sophisticated room system, which is easily movable, and can fit into most office environments. The system can be finished with glass or panel walls, in a variety of colours and finishes, and screens and blinds can also be hung,” says Arun Raina, business manager of Ofis.
One of the constant challenges being faced by interior designers today is how to create an exclusive, separate room within a space, without going for major permanent dry walls, partitions, ceilings and structures. While solutions do exist, most of them have some problems. “First, it is difficult to find rooms inside which the occupants get the benefit of fresh air and the ambient air-conditioning, without going for expensive ducting and cabling. Second, the sound-proofing quality of many such rooms is not adequate, which means that the very purpose of having the room – which is creating an island of quiet inside a busy office, or a private space where people outside cannot hear what is going on inside – is lost. And the third providing adequate lighting within the room,” says a spokesman for Bosse Design, which is acknowledged as a pioneer of room-within-a-room solutions and is part of the Germany-based Dauphin Human Design Group,
With the “magic cube”, Bosse Design has come up with an easy solution to all these difficulties, he adds.
With project-oriented work in changing teams becoming increasingly important nowadays, the number of employees who have a fixed workstation is becoming ever smaller. Open space offices are necessary if processes are to be tightened up and synergies created and where there are flexible working hours and variable workstations. Bosse Design’s “magic cube” – which can be freely positioned within an open-plan room – is self-contained and, in the same way as an island, provides a room within a room for concentration, communication and recreation purposes.
“One of the important features of the ‘magic cube’ is the networking facility, with easily accessible sockets provided inside the room for both power and IT requirements. The integrated lighting and air-flow system makes it a comfortable space to work or relax in. The size of the room is variable and can be designed to match the need,” adds Raina.
The functional features of the “magic cubes” are tailored precisely to the intended use. For example, if they are to be used as a meeting zone, the power and data supplies are connected up to the rest of the office data system. If they are used as a recreational zone, the distribution of light and subtle background music play an important role. An integrated ventilation system ensures a pleasant climate within the cubes at all times. As a technical zone for accommodating fax machines, photocopiers and printers, an archive zone or even a kitchen zone, the “magic cube” can be used in an extremely wide variety of ways.
This new product will be offered to the UAE market, exclusively through Ofis showrooms in Dubai at the foot of Maktoum Bridge in Bur Dubai and at ABN Amro Building at the Hamdan-Salam Street Junction in Abu Dhabi.
As a brand of the Dauphin Human Design Group, Bosse Design became known as one of the prime suppliers of interior design systems in the 1980s and has continued to expand its reputation as an innovative manufacturer from its headquarters in Höxter/Stahle in Germany. At a comparatively early stage, the company realised that mobile, interactive and communicative work is only possible in a flexible interior environment, and launched its “human space” systems. As an interior design system independent of the structure of the building, this system has been continually developed into an efficient alternative to static, drywall construction.
Following intensive market research and increased demand, the product range was continually expanded over the years with desks, standard office cabinet walls and the Bosse lighting system.
The Dubai-based Easa Saleh al Gurg Group has established a strong foothold in diversified marketing and manufacturing activities in the Middle East markets since the 1960s and as the German company’s leading distributor will be focusing on popularising the “magic cube” system in commercial establishments across the region.
