Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has unveiled two of its mega developments – Dubai Trade Centre District and Dubai Exhibition City – at the recently concluded Cityscape 2006 providing visitors with the opportunity to see the extent and ambition of these unique developments.
Starting from the existing DWTC Tower at the base of Sheikh Zayed Road, the Dubai Trade Centre District will extend up to land adjacent to Emirates Towers, transforming one of the most notable areas in the city into a new lifestyle destination for the world’s international business community, says a spokesman for the developer.
Designed by Hopkins Architects, the first phase of the Dh16 billion ($4.35 billion) masterplan to create the new Dubai Trade Centre District at the heart of the city, will see the next phase in the development of the central business area, creating world-class offices and business centres within Dubai’s established Central business district.
The state-of-the-art business quarter will contain two hotels, 200,000 sq m of grade A1 office accommodation, plus 1,000 apartments and 1,000 serviced apartments with related retail and car parking, offering a vibrant mix of public and private spaces, linked by air-conditioned pedestrian walkways.
Exhibition City
The Dh8 billion ($2.17 billion) centre, to be called Dubai Exhibition World, is specifically designed to enable events like Gitex, Big 5, Index, Gulfood and Arab Health to continue their meteoric growth, in addition to attracting some of the world’s biggest and best new exhibitions to the region.
Once complete, the centre will be the largest development of its kind in the world, providing some of the most significant hall space supported by the most advanced facilities, says the spokesman.
In addition, the new centre will be surrounded by a specially-designed infrastructure which will provide everything major events require, including a range of hotels, entertainment options and logistics support.
Dubai Exhibition World will for the first time offer a fully-supported and integrated environment alongside Dubai’s new World Central Airport and Jebel Ali Port and Free Zone, providing easy access for visitors, delegates and exhibitors alike.
Phase one of the 300,000 sq m development will offer 120,000 sq m of exhibition space at the centre of a 3-million-sq m dedicated site.
The first phase will also offer a total of 19 exhibition halls which can be used in a flexible format at the ground floor. When the dividing partitions are opened, 17 of these halls can be combined to create a single hall of over 85,000 sq m exhibition space, which is the largest single column-free hall in the world.
Adjacent to the main concourse is the multipurpose hall which has a total column-free area of 14,400 sq m and a clear height of 19 m. In an auditorium configuration it will seat 11,000 people. Designed to accommodate the most complex light and sound rigs, the hall will serve as a spectacular setting for world-class concerts and entertainment events.
The Confex hall is an ideal facility for conference and exhibition events. The entire destination is being landscaped-designed, to include water-ways, green areas and parkland.
