The new sealer put to test.

The US-based Sinak Corporation has introduced two revolutionary sealants in the UAE and other Gulf states that promise to significantly cut down construction time, conserve manpower and reduce costs.

The products – Sinak’s high-density concrete sealer S-102, and the Sinak Sealer HLQ-125 – will be made available through Oryx Enterprises.
“The product is ‘revolutionary’ as it does not currently face competition in the areas of curing and waterproofing with clear sealers,” says Craig Higgins, director operations, Sinak Corporation.
Sinak S-102 is a water-based liquid, with a proprietary formula. This environmentally-safe solution requires no mixing, diluting or agitating and can be applied using a low-pressure tank-type or airless sprayer. Unlike traditional curing compounds, Sinak S-102 contributes additional cementing properties including increased surface density, strength and durability.
“While typical water-curing concrete will make the surface unavailable for use between seven to 21 days, with Sinak S-102 the surface is available within a single day,” says Higgins.
He explains: “S-102, which is on average 100 per cent cheaper than the other curing methods, works by penetrating concrete and reacting with the soluble calcium compounds within to form additional calcium silicate – a major factor in sound, healthy concrete.
“These reactions slow the escape of water during the curing process, keeping the concrete cooler. This significantly reduces early shrinkage and hairline and micro-cracking. The newly formed, breathable protective barrier cannot be removed chemically or physically, and there is no surface coating or film that can be worn away.
“Concrete cured with S-102 is protected against chloride penetration on traffic-bearing and non-traffic surfaces, surface scaling, and freeze-thaw damage. The treated surface is more resistant to abrasion and dusting and is compatible with crack repair and surface patching/ coating materials. Treated surfaces also are protected against efflorescence.”
“Water curing concrete is different from the conventional system. The advantage of water-curing concrete can be seen in the excellent quality results,” says Higgins. “Keeping the concrete wet allows the ultimate cementing properties to be achieved. The main difference from conventional curing, besides the results, is the length of time it takes to water-cure, which can be five to 20 times longer. By water-curing concrete, water, can no longer evaporate from the concrete and this allows the surface silica structure to continue to form. Increased silica structure increases density and reduces penetrability.”
Regardless of the conditions, Sinak claims its S-102 will provide controlled results similar to, or exceeding, those of a four-day water soak.
S-102 is not affected by alkaline water and once applied does not require reapplication, as sometimes could be the case in the conventional system. The product has been tested by laboratories in Qatar, approved by a major US engineering giant and purchased by the largest construction contractor in the Middle East for application on the largest LNG project in the world.

Well timed
“Our entry into the UAE with our product portfolio has been timed very well with the hectic pace of infrastructure and realty development taking place in the Emirates. The UAE is the hub of the regional construction industry accounting for some 60 per cent of the Middle East construction and we plan to use Dubai as our springboard for expansion,” says Higgins.
“Real estate developers in the UAE and the region are keen to reduce development costs at a time when raw material prices have gone up and Sinak will act as an ideal partner of the industry to boost profit margins.
“We have come to the market with truly revolutionary products that are time tested in global markets. The regional construction and infrastructure development industry players are far more cost-conscious now than in the initial days of the boom. It is an ideal market for Sinak in this scenario and we have strong plans to deepen our presence in the Middle East where economic growth has generated significant business opportunities for building material solutions,” Higgins adds.
Unimix, a top producer of readymix concrete and concrete blocks, has endorsed all Sinak products after rigorous testing.
Unimix is one of the first construction majors in the UAE to utilize Sinak solutions.
The readymix cement company has over 27 years of expertise in the market with its involvement in various prestigious projects like the Burj Dubai tower, Madinat Jumeirah, and the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) among others. Unimix has earned a reputation as a quality provider of concrete and concrete-based solutions and today is one of the leaders in this space.
Commenting on the new concrete curing and waterproofing solutions, says Unimix director E R Menon: “We congratulate Sinak Corporation for bringing these first-of-its-kind building solutions which we find to be of immense value to our industry. We have stringently tested the products achieving amazing results. We can confidently say that these solutions will help shore-up profit margins in the highly competitive regional market and also benefit end-users in terms of quality construction. In these days of cost escalation, it is indeed imperative that industry deploys solutions and tools which will conserve energy, save time as well as costs.”
Jassim Al Moftah, president and managing director of Oryx Enterprises, says: “We were very confident of this new solution from Sinak. The successful testing of the product by Unimix only reconfirms our faith in the company’s products and its usability in the region. We are convinced that the commercial construction and infrastructure sector will significantly benefit from this miracle product.”
With production facilities and headquarters located in Los Angeles, California, Sinak has tested its products in the markets of Canada, Mexico, Korea, Taiwan and the UK before shifting focus on the Middle East region.
