Spain-based Comansa is eagerly eyeing the overseas market with a product offering that includes one of the widest ranges of modern flat-top cranes in the world.
The company, which has manufactured nearly 13,000 cranes since 1963, has supplied cranes to more than 30 countries across five continents. Export markets include Eastern Europe, Germany, France, the UK, Portugal, Switzerland, the US, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Algeria, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Korea, Japan, the UAE, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
The company is eager to further expand its overseas markets. “Our new factory and expanded capacity offers us the opportunity to serve the global market even though Spain remains the largest market for tower cranes in the world,” says Christopher Dawe, export manager.
The company produces 800 cranes of all types and sizes per year and 57 per cent of the output (in value) is marketed in Spain itself.
Comansa designs, develops and manufactures its quality cranes at its state-of-the art new facility in Pamplona. The firm last year opened the new factory as part of a strategic plan that envisaged facilities with an optimal plant layout and the latest production equipment. The plant uses robots in several of its processes.
The control systems are designed by the in-house research and development department and assembled in its own workshops, as are practically all the mechanical components and the structure of the cranes.
“This new plant will enable Comansa to face the future and meet the challenges that it holds on the basis of innovation and the use of the most effective and efficient technology and production equipment, and thereby offer the market the most productive solutions in tower cranes,” says Dawe.
Comansa’s range includes: HT self-erecting cranes; tower cranes and luffing-jib cranes.
HT self-erecting cranes
The product range of Comansa’s self-erecting cranes consists of four different models: HT 25, HT 28, HT 30 and HT 35 with jib length from 25 m up to 35 m.
Dismantling of the crane is easy and safe, says a spokesman. Thanks to the patented folding counterweight system, the total weight is evenly distributed over both axles, permitting transport of the HT-30 and HT-35 models, complete with counterweights, at 25 or 80 km/h.
Using the main hydraulic system, all HT cranes can be levelled semi-automatically without the help of separate hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical tools. Oversized support spindles simplify the fast, safe levelling process, as do the optional steel support cones, he says.
When site conditions prevent transport with all the counterweight, this can be off-loaded by the HT crane itself.
Tower cranes
Comansa, which puts great stress on innovation, continues the development of new flat-top cranes that meet the needs of the global construction industry and its latest crane range is the LC500 series.
This new range of flat-top cranes consists of four models with jib lengths ranging from 35 m up to 50 m with a maximum jib-end load of one tonne.
Advantages of this range include: Easy transport and stocking; economical, simple erection; sequential erection/dismantling of jib-modules; smaller height distance between two overlapping machines; modular compatibility with NT-Series of towers, anchor stools and hoist mechanisms; and safer erection /maintenance.
Other tower crane models include: the LC 5211; LC 1000; LC 2100; and Linden 8000.
Luffing-jib cranes
Comansa completes its product range with the LCL Series, luffing-jib cranes.
It offers two types, the LCL 200 and LCL 250 with a maximum capacity of 12 tonnes and jib lengths of 50 and 60 m and 2,300 kg jib-end loads.
This range features the latest generation electronic control system; a folding cross base that is compatible to all Comansa tower sections; modular mast sections; frequency-controlled motors for luffing and hoisting; progressive slewing, with up to three motors, sequentially powered up as jib luffed down; and a new generation of digital indicators in the cabin.
Comansa takes part in major exhibitions the world over, including SMOPYC in Zaragoza, Spain and ConExpo, held in Las Vegas, Nevada, US. It has a sister company in the US, the Linden Comansa America, which is based in Charlotte, North Caroline. The unit is a joint venture of Comansa and the American tower crane supply and service company Heede Southeast.
