
Work on the sultanate’s RO132 million ($342 million) Southern Expressway project will begin on September 15.
The 54-km world-class expressway, will not only be a boon to commuters heading from the wilayats to the main city, but will also play a major role in reducing congestion in the southern corridor of Muscat.
The expressway will link Qurum roundabout and Al Naseem roundabout and will have many bridges and interchanges.
The Muscat Municipality has formally transferred the site of the project to contractor Galfar Engineering and Contracting.
The first phase of the work will start from the Qurum roundabout and will cover the new road from Qurum to the turnoff to Nizwa, where there will be a major interchange.
The entire project will be completed in 48 months and will deploy more than 2,000 personnel at peak and 220 heavy equipment, 120 light equipment, 260 heavy vehicles and 130 light vehicles.
