Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has embarked on a four-year plan to implement major infrastructure projects in the electricity and water sector with an allocation amounting to $2 billion.
Fifty-five new electricity stations and several projects to develop water distribution networks will be set up around the country by 2009.
The capacity of electricity substations would be increased by 60 per cent in the next few years.
The projects would help meet the increasing industrial, commercial and residential requirements of the country and will comply with the highest international quality standards.
The electricity sector accounts for the largest share in the plan, with a budget estimate of $1.1 billion.
As for the water sector, approximately $412 million has been allocated.
