The plant and equipment division of Genavco, which is the local dealer for JLG’s equipment in the region, says that there has been a significant growth in sales in JLG’s Ultra Series range of equipment, and that much of the growth can be attributed to the surge in construction activity.
“Not only has there been a substantial increase in sales of JLG last year, but there have been a lot of rental companies who have put the equipment on their rental fleet as well,” says a company spokesman.
Launched at last year’s bauma, the JLG Ultra Series booms are built from 100,000-psi steel, making them 40 per cent stronger than the competition and the most robust in the industry, he says. “With a dual 1,000/500 lb capacity, the Ultra Series can handle more workers, tools or materials and provide better reach to critical work areas,” says the spokesman. “The boom strength also allows JLG to offer exclusive workstation in the Sky packages that increase operator productivity and ease of operation,” he adds.
“Designed with the operator in mind, every JLG Ultra Series boom lift features a control system that adjusts the swing speed to the boom extension to maintain constant platform velocity. Steering speed, which is proportional to wheel angle, helps reduce the jerky motion effect common on similar boom lifts. In addition, ease of operation is provided for the user as the control system automatically synchronises the wheels when switching between the three steering modes,” he says.
All Ultra Series boom lifts are transportable on a standard stepdeck trailer, thus doing away with need for special permits. The JibPlus boom can be easily stowed to provide transport lengths under 11.89 m. Drive-out extendable axles allow a transport width of 2.49 m.
The series includes the models 1200 SJP, 1250 AJP and 1350 SJP. The 1250AJP Ultra boom aerial work platform is an articulating and telescoping model with a horizontal reach of 19.25 m, an up and over reach of 18.47 m and a 38.10 m platform height, says the spokesman.
The unique JibPlus jib boom on the model 1250AJP rotates both vertically (130 degrees) and horizontally (125 degrees) and when combined with the 180-degree rotation offered by the platform, provides workers with exceptional manoeuvrability for reaching hard-to-access areas. Platform capacity in the majority of the work envelope is a restricted 454 kg and unrestricted platform capacity is 230 kg, he says.
For added worker productivity, the machine is fitted with JLG’s QuikStik boom that allows the platform to be lowered to the ground while the tower boom is fully raised and extended. With this feature, workers can go from ground level to full elevation in 95 seconds, he says.
A standard feature of the 1250AJP is the SkyPower package comprising a 7,500-watt generator, which provides power to welders and other platform-mounted accessories. Other features include drive-out front extending axle, oscillating axle for better traction over rough terrain, and four-wheel drive and steer. Similar to the 41.15 m and 36.58 m platform height JLG Ultra boom lifts, the 1250AJP’s articulating and telescoping boom lift is transportable on a standard step-deck trailer without the need for special permits.
The all-new JLG Model 1250AJP articulating boom lift delivers the additional reach capabilities only an articulating boom can provide for applications that demand more flexibility. “The Model 1250AJP takes you up, over, out and around obstructions and is ideal for applications that require maximum high-reach versatility such as: petrochemical, steel and paper mills, airport construction and aircraft maintenance, stadium/arena/ convention centres, co-generation plants, shipyards and bridge renovation and construction,” he says.
The standard four-wheel steer of the 1250 AJP makes manoeuvring around congested jobsites easier than before. The models come with three steering modes – two-wheel steer, four-wheel coordinated or crab steering. The Ultra Booms feature the tightest turning radius and an industry-best 1:1 crab steer ratio, he says.
JLG Industries, backs its products with its exclusive “1 and 5” warranty. “We provide coverage on all products for one full year, and cover all specified major structural components for five years. This machine meets or exceeds applicable OSHA Regulations in 29 CFR 1910.67, 29 CFR 1926.453, ANSI A92.5-1992, and CSA Standard CAN3-B354.4-M82, as originally manufactured for intended applications,” he says.
Genavco has done well during the past year and has achieved significant growth compared to 2003 and is expecting that the market will respond positively as there would be no let up in the construction activity in the next couple of years.
“The company has a large share of the market and aims further consolidate its position in the years to come,” the spokesman concludes.
