The Dubai Municipality has invited civil works companies to submit their request for pre-qualification (RFQ) for the final design and construction of the Dubai Light Rail project.

The project will consist of two transit lines of 70-km, out of which 30 per cent is underground with two creek crossings. The remaining portions are elevated. The project will be implemented in stages.
The works include heavy civil engineering with tunnel works, line/station/depot facilities, electromechanical equipment (air conditioning, elevators and escalators) and possibly public utilities relocation.
The Dubai Light Rail Project includes 40km of tunnels and the municipality hopes to award a single turnkey contract. Tender documents should be released in early August.
