Spanish engineering and construction group Técnicas Reunidas has cemented its position as a leading EPC contractor in the GCC energy sector with two landmark wins spanning onshore gas infrastructure and offshore oilfield development. 

The company recently accepted a letter of intent for a $1.65 billion lump-sum turnkey contract to engineer, procure, construct and commission onshore gas processing facilities for a major Middle East gas field, while separately securing more than $5.75 billion in EPCI packages from Adnoc for the Upper Zakum megaproject – its largest sole-contractor awards to date and a significant boost to a backlog that stood at $16 billion at the end of June.

The contract to build onshore gas facilities for a major gas field development in the region under a lump-sum turnkey arrangement is expected to cover the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the facilities required to receive, process and export gas produced from the field, it stated.

The scope of work for Técnicas Reunidas includes development of onshore gas processing facilities required for the reception, treatment and export of gas produced from the field.

 Técnicas Reunidas has secured two contracts from Adnoc to provide engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) services for the packages worth a total of more than $5.75 billion.

This new phase of development aims to expand Upper Zakum’s production capacity to 1.5 million barrels per day. The planned work includes the installation of new facilities on existing artificial islands and on Zirku Island, comprising key equipment such as compressors, storage tanks and water treatment units.

Construction activities will also include offshore production facilities, subsea infrastructure, utility systems, export pipelines, and brownfield modifications, it stated.

Técnicas Reunidas already has experience in Upper Zakum, having been awarded the design engineering works for the same oil field in 2019.
