Al Derazi … Work will begin soon on the waterfront project.

Bahrain is developing a new family-oriented waterfront project in the Northern Governorate, with free public access to leisure facilities planned when it opens next year, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication, citing a local official.

The revamped Karzakan coast in Block 1027 will include green spaces, shaded areas, food kiosks, children’s play areas and facilities for people with disabilities, said Zainab Al Derazi, representative for the 12th District.

“We are closely following up on the Karzakan coastal development project,” Al Derazi said, adding that the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture confirmed the project last month, with implementation by the Ministry of Works.

With the tendering process completed, the construction work is expected to begin soon and is likely to continue until February 2027, she said.

The development will feature a coastal promenade, landscaped areas, seating zones, pedestrian and cycling paths, as well as service facilities including toilets, changing rooms and designated kiosk areas. Plans also include a lifeguard tower, recreational spaces, organised parking and infrastructure upgrades such as lighting and drainage systems.
