International water and wastewater treatment expert Metito has installed a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant at Dubai's Nad Al Sheba racing stables - home to some of the world's finest race horses.
The wastewater plant was completed in a record time of 20 weeks for the stables complex and treated effluent from the plant is then used to help with irrigation of Nad Al Sheba grounds.
Nad Al Sheba comprises 10 stables to house up to 100 horses and also has accommodation facilities for up to 60 people. It also includes an administration block and canteen with 25 people working on the site.
Wastewater from the horse stable facility is treated at the on-site plant developed by Metito for the complex that was completed with RMJM as consultant for the project for the Engineers Office in Dubai.
The plant has been designed to handle an average daily flow of up to 80,000 litres of effluent.
"We are very proud to have been able to deliver an effective and environmentally friendly solution to disposing of waste from the stables at Nad Al Sheba," says Metito (Overseas) commercial manager, Mohammed Wehbe. "In a desert environment like Dubai it is vital to ensure that we recycle as much water as possible to be used for environmental and irrigation purposes."
Within four weeks of completion of the installation, the plant was successfully commissioned and its performance being demonstrated. The treatment process used at the plant is made up of physico-chemical treatment followed by biological treatment using diffused aeration.
The biologically treated effluent is then given tertiary treatment through chlorination and two stage filtration. Finally treated effluent can then be re-used for irrigation purposes at the Nad Al Sheba site.
Metito is the leading international company for the provision of wastewater treatment, desalination and water supply projects.
In the UAE, it operates its European, Asian and African operations from its headquarters in Sharjah and has a factory and laboratory facility in the Hamriya Free Zone.
