Mammut Building Systems, considered to be one of only two specialised pre-engineered steel building (PEB) manufacturers in the UAE, is currently supplying and erecting the largest pre-engineered steel building project in the Middle East.

The buildings will cover an area of 250,000 sq m and accommodate the Abu Dhabi Pipes and Profiles Industries Complex (Adipco). They are being produced at Mammut's new state-of-the-art factory in Hamriya Free Zone, Sharjah, which has a production capacity of 36,000 tonnes of steel per year.

Adipco, located in the Mussafah Industrial Area of Abu Dhabi, UAE, comprises five non-identical buildings where different types of pipes and other rolled steel products will be produced.

The buildings' frames will support 72 overhead cranes, all spanning 30 m and whose capacities ranging from 5 to 30 tonnes. All the crane bridges - each 30 m long - will be produced by Mammut as will several 24-m-long jack beams and crane runway beams.

The entire project utilises the pre-engineered steel building system - the fastest, most flexible and most economical building system for the construction of factory buildings, warehouses, showrooms, supermarkets, shopping malls and any low-rise building comprising of ground floor and three intermediate floors (plus a gabled or flat roof), according to Muayyad Khudairi, general manager.

Mammut is in the process of opening offices in Abu Dhabi and Doha, Qatar, in addition to reinforcing its sales presence in Dubai with a goal of capturing 50 per cent of the pre-engineered steel buildings market in the UAE and Qatar.

Mammut Building Systems is currently developing world-class marketing literature including a comprehensive technical manual. Targeted at consultants, it is intended to raise consultants' awareness of the great aesthetic and flexible attributes of the PEB system and the role that Mammut can play in supporting consultants at the design stage of any building project incorporating a pre-engineered steel building.
