Bahrain is to spend BD2 billion ($5.3 billion) in a new campaign aimed at providing every citizen with adequate housing.
The emphasis will be on improving housing in villages but towns will also benefit if they lack necessary facilities, said Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, who stressed the need to carry out the projects in a relatively short time.
The National Housing Scheme will be spearheaded by Crown Prince and BDF Commander-in-Chief Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa who will chair a committee charged with looking into the housing situation in Bahrain.
The committee will consider whether to establish new housing sites in new towns and may reclaim land for the purpose and will invite international companies specialised in design and construction to submit their bids.
