BIDS have been invited by Kuwait’s Ministry of Public Works for the construction and completion of a new passenger terminal at the Kuwait International Airport (Terminal Two).

The scope of work includes construction and completion, furnishing and maintenance of the terminal, said the ministry. Contractors that have prequalified for the project include Arkan Engineering Company for General Contracting for Buildings, Aknan Global for Development Real Estate, Kharafi Construction, Kharafi National, Mabani United, Combined Group Contracting, Al Mulla Building and Construction, Burhan for Engineering and Construction, Saleh Jamal and Company, Koobri for Construction Projects, Kuwait Systems for General Trading and Contracting, and Larsen and Toubro Kuwait Construction General Contracting.

The last date for submission is April 22, 2014 against a bid bond of KD15 million ($53 million).

 The state-of-the-art terminal complex will include a basement; ground plus two floors; multi-storey car parks with a minimum of 4,500 car spaces; taxiways and aprons adjacent to the terminal; 28 terminal gates, including eight gates for Airbus A380; a transit hotel with capacity for 400 beds among other facilities.

The new terminal will be located south of the existing terminal, between the two existing runways, but with all road and public transport links gained from the south via a new highway connecting to the Sabhan Road and the new seventh Ring Road.

The airport expansion aims to enhance its capacity to serve 25 million passengers per year by 2024, up from the current eight million passengers.
