CONSTRUCTION will begin in the first half of this year on one of Qatar’s major new port projects – the $4.5 billion Phase One of the New Doha Port, south of Al Wakra township.
Comprising general cargo terminals, container terminals and roll-on/roll-off berths along with an administration and customs complex, the port will cover an area of more than 20 sq km.
The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by 2014. The port foundation and breakwater construction project for Qatar’s New Doha Port was awarded to Chinese contractor China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC).
The project includes construction of a container wharf, general cargo wharf, naval forces wharf, and breakwater.
