RENOWNED UK architects Foster + Partners has won a KD19 million ($66.7 million) contract from Kuwait’s General Directorate of Civil Aviation to design a new passenger terminal at the Kuwait International Airport.

Other ministries involved are Ministry of Communications and State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Ministry of Public Works (MPW).

The capacity of the terminal will be 13 million passengers per year (ppy), bringing the airport’s total capacity to about 20 million ppy.

Foster + Partners beat intense competition with several international firms to land the deal,  senior executive and architect Richard Dilworth said.

This is the second project in Kuwait for Foster + Partners, which is headed by world famous designer Sir Norman Foster, who also designed the headquarters of National Bank of Kuwait.

Kuwait also represents one of the important markets for Foster + Partners in the Middle East. The firm is currently implementing a number of projects in the region including Abu Dhabi National Museum, Saudi Economic City and a huge stadium in Qatar.
