QATAR Steel Company and Siemens VAI have signed a contract to build a steel plant with a capacity of 1.1 million tonnes per year.

The plant will be located adjacent to the existing plant in Qatar’s industrial city of Mesaieed, which produces about 2 million tonnes of steel per year. It is expected to be commissioned by the first quarter of 2013.

The plant will feature Siemens VAI’s ultra-high power 110-tonne electric arc furnace, 110 T ladle furnace and six-strand high speed billet caster coupled with sophisticated fume extraction system for zero emission.

It will be designed according to Siemens VAI’s best technology  in order to aim for low investment, high productivity, high production flexibility, low specific consumption cost, and high quality of the products.
