Chamber plans cost index

The Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) is planning to publish a new construction cost index.

The objective of the new cost index, the first of its kind in the Middle East, is to upgrade the performance of Riyadh's construction industry.

The project will be completed by March 2002, said Abdulrahman bin Ali Al Jeraisy, chairman of the RCCI board of directors. The RCCI has signed agreements with two specialised firms for speeding up the implementation of the scheme, a report said.

Tenders invited for water plant

Jeddah: The Ministry of Water will invite tenders for building a water treatment plant near the King Fahd Dam in Bisha.

The cost of the project has been estimated at SR89 million ($13.2 million), a report said.

The plant is expected to supply 40,000 cu m of drinking water daily. The dam, with a height of 103 m, has the capacity to hold 325 million cu m of water.

Sewerage work under way

Riyadh: Work on the first phase of the sewerage project at Hail is currently under way, a report said.

Four districts of Hail city will benefit from the project which includes establishment of a sewage treatment plant and the necessary network.

The total cost of the treatment plant is SR21.94 million ($5.85 million) while the cost of the network is SR62.50 million.

Go-ahead to built three roads

Riyadh: The government has sanctioned contracts worth SR57.25 million ($15.26 million) to build three roads.

Communications Minister, Dr Nasir Al Salloum, approved the contract for constructing a 75-km road linking the Hasat Qahtan-Reen Road with the Riyadh-Hejaz Expressway.

The SR47.266 million contract was won by Rosan Contracting Establishment. The other two projects are in the Jizan region.

Gibca in distribution deal

Jeddah: Gibca toilet cubicles are now available ex-stock in Saudi Arabia following a distribution agreement between Saudi Pan Gulf UBMO and Gibca (UAE).

Saudi Pan Gulf UBMO has been supplying building materials to projects in Saudi Arabia for 22 years.

Gibca Furniture Industries Company, based in Ajman, was founded in 1975 and manufactures wet area cubicles, locker systems, kitchen cabinets and worktops in Trespa solid grade compact laminate.
