Nomas Enterprises has appointed Atkins as the architectural designer and engineering consultant for its first real estate project in Bahrain.
Spread over an area of 35,000 sq m in Juffair, the $800 million mixed-use waterfront complex in Manama will have four towers, an expansive waterfront and is due for completion by 2012, according to the developers.
The Atkins design team is led by Nicholas Bailey, an international award-winning architect. The project is reflective of the increasing importance of carbon-critical design and features environmentally-attuned attributes such as self-shading vertical fins on the towers’ facades. The orientation of the building maximises the panoramic views while minimising solar heat gain, and the majority of apartments are duplex units which include double-height spaces and double frontages for natural cross ventilation during the cooler months.
Earlier last month, Nomas Enterprises announced the appointment of pan-Arab firm Projacs International as project manager for the waterfront complex.
