Susol, an abbreviation of ‘Super Solution” has, after two years of intensive research, recorded a technological innovation in the field of industrial electric equipment with its moulded case circuit breakers (MCCBs) and, with it, the electric equipment business division of LS Industries, Korea, is now geared to expand its presence in the Middle East and other world markets.

“Susol MCCBs is our star achievement. It will ensure a rated current between 16 and 800a with a mere four frames, consisting of 24 models, categorised into standard types (N Type:65kA max); high interrupting types (H Type: 100kA max) and current limiting types (l Type: 150kA) and for the purpose of proper protection of various loads, thermal magnetic units are available,” says C M Kim of LS Industrial Systems (LSIS), the Korean firm behind the development of the performance enhancing circuit breakers.
Customers can pick from the different communication modules according to their needs. The various internal and external accessories, says Kim, have been designed to respond to the most demanding installation environments and maximise convenience of use.
Susol MCCBs have minimised interrupting energy by reducing the tripping time, which utilises the arc pressure in the pressure-tripping mechanism. The arc energy is minimised with a toggle device using the cam curve of the driving unit. This then means an optimised solution for a more stable and reasonable network.
A communication function has also been installed in the Susol MCCBs (MODBUS/RS485) for the first time and can now be used in applications where it is necessary to establish set points at the lowest level and monitor parameters, such as electric current, remotely, in large-sized plants and buildings.
“We have also added a zone selective interlocking (ZSI) function that allows an intentional delay so that lower level breaks can respond, making it possible to selectively interrupt power immediately in specific areas,” says Kim, adding that “this function enables a more effective control of the monitoring systems and control panels.
“Susol MCCBs have been produced using eco-friendly materials and its design has enabled it to eliminate the use of the six restricted substances of the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) directive. Hence, the Susol series of moulded circuit breakers can be freely exported to countries with the most demanding environmental regulations,” he explains.
LS Industries, who have established an office in Dubai, are determined to penetrate the market here, in the Middle East and Europe.
“We have an ambitious plan in place to establish our presence and become one of the world’s top players. We are confident we can do this and achieve worldwide sales of KRW200 billion in the next five years,” says Kim.
While the Susol moulded-case circuit breakers series is the premium brand of the power equipment division of LSIS, it has also introduced its high performance, environment-friendly Susol magnetic switches. The lifespan of these magnetic switches has been dramatically extended compared to other products. The insulation capacity of the switches has been raised to 1,000V and the carrying reliability of the auxillary contacts to 17V 5mA. The Susol magnetic contactors have been tested at 150kA, equivalent to the maximum break current of the Susol MCCB, ensuring reliable protection of the system and its equipment in conjunction with the Susol MCCB.
“The Susol contactors and overload relay, will, over the next five years, become the leading product globally,” asserts Kim.
