An advanced door and frame system from Wright Style, the UK-based advanced steel glazing system specialist, has successfully completed two fire tests in Singapore - one being the stringent fire test on the performance of fully-glazed doors.

The first fire test was to the Singapore national standard SS332:2000 for doors, a relatively new standard based on a combination of Australian, New Zealand, British and ISO standards.

''Achieving this highly demanding fire test underlines the inherent strength and fire safety characteristics of the Wright Style system in all major world markets - not just in Singapore or the Far East,'' says a company spokesperson.

Wright Style has a comprehensive network of international licensed fabricators, offering a design and installation service for the full range of safety and acoustic glazing systems. This fire test reflects the company's commitment to its customers worldwide. The company has agents/distributors in each of the GCC states.

The fixed screens for the Singapore test were tested to BS476 Part 22, in accordance with the requirements of the Singapore Productivity and Standards Board (PSB). The single action pair of doors, complete with sidelights, were tested to 60 minutes integrity only. The overall dimensions were 3.0 m wide by 2.35 m high. Incorporated within the test module were individual glass pane sizes of approximately 1.0 m wide by 2.2 m high.

The second test for multi-panel fixed lights, also to 60 minutes integrity only, comprised a test module with overall dimensions of 3.0 m wide by 3.0 m high, incorporating individual glass pane, 1.4 m wide by 2.25 m high.

The tests were conducted in conjunction with Schott Glass of Germany and VJF Systems of Singapore, Wright Style's licensed fabricator for Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei.

This fire protection system will be listed within the PSB directory of certified products, which is a third party product assurance scheme, involving type testing as well as quality control inspections during the manufacturing process.

Wright Style is one of the UK's leading steel glazing specialists, with a comprehensive range of interior and exterior safety glazing systems for a wide variety of applications. The company supplies its bespoke and standard glazing systems worldwide, through a network of licensed fabricators and installers, and has a commitment to the industry to supply one-stop high-quality glazing solutions.

''Wright Style's advanced and aesthetically-pleasing systems,'' the spokesperson says, ''give designers and architects new and safe options to incorporate glass within their designs, by providing systems developed for use in screens, windows, doors, roof glazing, partitioning and curtain walling, whilst offering protection against fire, smoke, ballistic and blast threat.''

"We are delighted to have successfully completed these fire tests, which conclusively demonstrate the inherent strength and safety of our product and system design," says Les O'May, Wright Style sales manager.

"Our systems are designed to counter life-threatening situations, and we continue to push the boundaries of what glazed elements can achieve safely and cost-effectively - and therefore the kind of building facades that architects are now able to design," he adds.
