Qatar has awarded two major road projects as part of a comprehensive and modern road network plan.
The projects were awarded to Joannou & Paraskevaides Qatar (J & P), an international building and civil engineering company with headquarters in Cyprus.
The contracts were signed by Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture Ali bin Saad Al Kuwari and J & P resident manager Andreas Petrides.
The projects involve building an underpass and flyover at the Immigration Roundabout (Gharafa) and on the Salwa Road (Midmac Roundabout).
The minister said the government was determined to ease traffic congestion on Qatar's roads.
The three-level Midmac project will provide an expressway from north to south up to the Mesaieed industrial city. This project will cost QR161.2million and will be implemented in 18 months.
The project consists of an overbridge/underpass intersection at Midmac, and a staggered bridge/underpass intersection at the Assiri roundabout. Both these intersections are to be formed along with a 1,463-m-long main highway underpass.
Also included in the total contract are alterations to about 3,717m of main highway, along with associated service/access roads.
Similarly, at the Gharafa or Immigration office roundabout, there will be a 800m long fly-over connecting the Shamal Road with the 22 February Street; and a 700m long underpass in the direction of the Luqta road. This project will cost QR204 million and will be completed in 16 months.
