Saudi Industries for Desalination Membranes and Systems Limited (Sidmas) has been awarded a subcontract to refurbish the Riyadh Water and Sewage Authority's Al-Malaz reverse osmosis desalination plant, which has a capacity of 19,200 cu m per day.

Sidmas will modify the plant by retrofitting the RO (reverse osmosis) blocks from hollow fibre technology to the modern one based on thin film.

High-pressure pumps will be replaced by new low-energy consumption pumps while hollow fibre elements will be replaced by modern, high-performance spiral wound membrane elements made by Sidmas.

The company will also change the headers, control panels and instrumentation with modern and automated equipment.
