Following their recent merger, Hitachi and Sumitomo have blended the best of their technologies to create a new world standard 90-tonne hydraulic crawler crane, which they claim to be simple, reliable and efficient.
“The SCX900-2 – which is the winner of SED 2004 award for excellence under the cranes and access category – offers new levels of safety, operability, durability and ease of maintenance,” says a company spokesman.
SED 2004, a construction equipment show, was held at Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, UK, last May.
The new and advanced modular design offers the opportunity to tailor-make the machine to meet specific requirements, such as three types of hoist winch outputs, three types of engine, two types of control systems, two types of swing units and three types of boom hoist winch systems, giving the advantage of greater engine power, greater line pull, and varied operator control systems, thereby eradicating the need to move out of the 90-tonne crane class.
In terms of operator comfort, the newly-designed cab is fully sprung to reduce fatigue and is fitted with the latest joystick control system. The new interior design also gives the operator outstanding visibility towards the front, rear and sides, enhancing operating ease and productivity.
The machine is fitted with a new clutch-less winch system, which uses a multiple wet-disk brake and a forced-oil cooling system to sustain brake performance even in continuous heavy-duty operations such as hammer grabbing. This brake system is designed to provide reliability whilst requiring no maintenance, says the spokesman.
The standard features of SCX900-2 include:
• Maximum main boom length of 60 m and maximum boom and fly jib of 48 m plus 28 m;
• Transportable width – with crawlers retracted 3.4 m;
• Very short tail radius of 4.270 m allowing the machine to slew in very confined areas;
• Hoist winch speed of 120 m per minute; and
• Hydraulically elevated high ‘A’ frame.
The patented SC Controller System enables the operator, by way of a switch, to select speed or power on demand and this is particularly useful especially to perform accurate lifts or for grabbing duties, says the spokesman.
“This machine is outstanding, not only for its technical innovation, but is the best lifting equipment available in the 90-tonne class at 4 m radius, 1.5 tonnes at 40 m radius,” he adds.
