A locaL concrete block pioneer says it has helped contribute towards the building of the UAE with over 40 million blocks over the last 13 years.

Unimix Block Industry - a subsidiary of Mohammed Salem Bakhit Al Bakhit Group of Companies - was established in 1987 by its managing director Khalid Salem Bakhit.

The company was one of the UAE's pioneers in producing ordinary and lightweight blocks in various sizes for the building industry, says its manager Magdi Shoukri Kist.

"The factory has produced approximately 40 million blocks supplied to numerous projects in the UAE, especially in Dubai. Along with the civil and construction development in the UAE and particularly Dubai, we set up our new plant in 1999 by using the most advanced fully-computerised and automated machines to improve and increase productivity and launch new products for the first time," he says. "We have also developed our delivery and transportation system by providing new trucks with crane for loading and off-loading the blocks and paving stones."

The company has a state-of-the-art paver and block-making plant fitted with equipment and machinery from MASA, a reputed German manufacturer. "The plant is fully automatic - from feeding of aggregates to the stripping of cubed products - and is computer-controlled via a touch-screen display," says Kist. "All our operators are equipped with the proper knowledge and training, provided by the commissioning company, in order to obtain the necessary competence to operate the highly sophisticated machinery."
