Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (Melco) of Japan exhibited what it termed as the 'elevator of elevators' at the Middle East Elevator & Escalator Exhibition which was held in Dubai last month.
The company showed off its latest 'machine-room-less elevators' which are being launched in the Middle East this month.
ETA-Melco's senior general manager V R Kumar said the range of elevators had the slimmest-ever elevator machine and did not require a dedicated machine room.
Kumar said that they are also equipped with a permanent magnet (PM) motor even for the door operator which enables them to achieve matchless door performance and energy savings.
On the safety front, he said it has an additional safety device to operate during uncontrolled ascending of the cage. Kumar added that the entire equipment assembly was of the self-supporting type and did not require any additional structural support.
ETA-Melco has been closely involved in three major projects in the UAE, namely the Burj Al Arab Tower Hotel, Dubai International Airport and Emirates Towers.
The elevator show, organised by Mediac, was held under the patronage of the UAE Contractors Association and the Society of Engineers. It was inaugurated by Abdul Rahman G Al Mutaiwee, director-general of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI).
Major companies which took part in the show, which was held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, included leading international names such as Mitsubishi, Otis, Kone, Hyundai, Selcom Afsen, Escalator Handrall, Draka Elevator Products, Sel Al Lift Co, TUV Suddeutschland and Besam Auto Doors.
