BAHRAIN has announced the opening of the Muharraq Ring Road, one of the kingdom’s largest strategic road projects. The project is part of the government’s broader plan to improve connectivity between Muharraq and the capital through the upcoming fourth bridge, reported the Bahrain News Agency (BNA).
The ring road was inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa at a ceremony organised by the Works Ministry.
Shaikh Khalid highlighted Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to upgrade infrastructure to keep pace with rapid demographic, economic and urban growth while ensuring safe and sustainable land transport. These projects aim to improve traffic flow, reduce travel time and support economic and commercial activities, said the report.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasised that the Muharraq Ring Road project aligns with the ongoing development in Muharraq, particularly its northeast, covering investment, tourism, commercial and residential sectors, stated the report.
He later received a briefing on the proposed fourth Manama-Muharraq Crossing, which will improve traffic flow in northern Muharraq and create new access routes, including a sea bridge connecting Al Sayah to Bahrain Bay, it added.
Meanwhile, late last month Bahrain’s Cabinet approved a memorandum on the timeline for implementing the internal railway network and its integration into the GCC railway network.
