Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWPC) is preparing to award two Manah solar power plant projects – Manah Solar Power 1 and Manah Solar Power 2, the development of which is expected to involve an investment of RO300 million ($776 million).

The company will later appoint two international developers to undertake the project, to cover construction, ownership and operation tasks, reported Oman News Agency (ONA).

The projects are part of the economic diversification plans, based on the status of the energy sector as a prime mover of  the“Invest in Oman” initiative. They are in line with the government’s efforts to accomplish Oman Vision 2040 for economic and development. They also seek to encourage the use of renewable energy.

Along with other energy sector projects, the two projects, with a collective output of 1,000 MW, are expected to contribute to 20 per cent of the renewable energy consumption by 2030.
