
LEADING European construction group Strabag said its Oman unit has been awarded two major contracts worth RO61.3 million ($159.2 million) to execute infrastructure projects in the sultanate.
Oman’s Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources has awarded Strabag Oman a contract worth €92 million ($121.75 million) to build a flood protection dam near Sur. In addition to the construction of the 1.2-km earth dam, the project also involves considerable earthworks and erosion protection works in the drainage of the wadi canal as well as the rerouting of 5 km of an existing rural road. Construction is scheduled for completion by August 2016.
The second contract, awarded by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, calls for the expansion and upgrade of the road between Wadi Minqal and Wadi Bani Jaber. The planned asphalt road will be 19 km long and will be built for around €28 million ($37 million). The scope of work involves moving of 2 million cu m of earth during the 24 months of construction.
