Kuwait Magic ... major project covered by Jotun Paints

Over the last decade, Jotun Paints has been putting its expertise to good use in Kuwait.

"Kuwait is a highly-demanding market and Jotun has been able to offer expertise that is backed by a 70-year track record of excellence," says a spokeswoman for Jotun.

Jotun Paints has been active in Kuwait since 1991, and its paints have been used on several prominent projects throughout the country.

Major projects that the company has been recently involved with include the Kuwait Magic entertainment village, the Al Ru'ya Bilingual School, a commercial plaza, the Al-Sondoss complex and the Al Fanar shopping mall.

Elaborating on these projects, the spokeswoman says: "The newly-completed Kuwait Magic is a massive complex in Abu Hulaifa which has shopping malls, restaurants, beach resorts and entertainment parks. The project was built by Al Baher Construction for the Islamic Authority for Charity and Jotun's Fenomastic was specified for 16,000 sq m of interior while Profile Decor was used for the exterior covering 40,000 sq m.

"Al-Ru'ya is one of Kuwait's biggest private English-Arabic bilingual schools. For the project, the owner and contractor Adnan Al Saleh Group specified Fenomastic to enhance the exterior, covering 20,000 sq m, and Profile Decor for 50,000 sq m of the interiors.

Other projects where Jotun was specified and used include:

  • A huge commercial plaza with offices on the top floor and shopping facilities as well as restaurants and coffee shops including the famous Starbucks franchise, on the other floors.

  • The mixed-use Al-Sondoss complex in Hawalli which has a shopping mall on the ground floor, apartments on the top floor, and commercial offices on the floors between them.

  • The upmarket Loloat Al-Aaraf shopping mall in Salmiya, which has shops with designer brands such as Mango, River Island and Gucci.

Colours play a major part in contemporary design for residences and commercial outlets, and this is where Jotun scores, with its Multicolor centres, according to the spokesman. Jotun introduced its first Multicolor Center to Kuwait in 1994 and today there are 12 such centres, located at A2Z, Wameedh, Al-Jazairy, Ayed M Al-Shalahi, ACE Hardware, Boushahri, Jawala Establishment, Norway Paints, Al-Dahaby, Al-Matheel Establishment, International Insulation and Al-Mazkoury.

The Multicolor Center is Jotun's one-stop paint selection shop. It includes a state-of-the-art computerised system with a Colorbar, Color Reader and Color Advisor. The Colorbar has samples of more than 800 contemporary colours, from new neutrals and pastels to bold and bright colours, and is backed by more than 16,000 colours in a computer database. The Color Reader is capable of digitally scanning and replicating any colour from a piece of fabric, upholstery or out of a magazine while the Colour Advisor provides an on-screen display of how a home will look with different colour combinations, giving users an opportunity to see their choice before starting to paint.

Jotun also conducts periodic 'paint school' seminars in Kuwait. "Its first paint school, held in 1998, attracted 20 consultants, engineers and contractors, who were briefed on surface preparation, application methods and paint technology," the spokeswoman says. "And since then, Jotun has held several other seminars which have been well-received by decoration teachers, architects and consultants."
